Te Tumu Paeroa has partnered with four other organisations to deliver New Zealand’s largest affordable housing development which will become home to nearly 300 families in Waimahia , Auckland.

The Civil Works team are now on-site, transforming the 16 hectares of land into a complete subdivision with parks and shared areas.  The project establishment, funding and operation are a united effort that combines iwi, government, council, and community groups. It includes:  The Tamaki Collective, the New Zealand Housing Foundation, the Community of Refuge Trust and Auckland and Onehunga Hostels Endowment Trust (administered by Te Tumu Paeroa).

Basil Tapuke, Te Tumu Paeroa Manager Strategy, says this represents a huge opportunity for any low-to-moderate income whānau in Tamaki (Auckland).  “The houses will be affordable and will provide secure and healthy housing options for many families.  There will also be the opportunity for families to work towards home ownership,” says Basil.

Waimahia has been planned with community as the focus, and the architectural designs include green spaces for children to play, and two to five bedroom houses that, in total, can house 1,250 people.

“Over time the Auckland and Onehunga Hostels Endowment Trust has existed to accommodate Māori in the city.  The trust’s current involvement in Waimahia meets the changing accommodation needs of Māori in a modern context, and will make home ownership more accessible,” says Basil.

There are a range of options available to whānau, from renting with a view to purchasing when you are ready, to purchasing a share in the home depending on your income.  For more information about this opportunity you can email info@waimahia.co.nz or visit www.waimahia.co.nz or call 0800 WAIMAHIA.
