Warm, dry and fit for the future
A significant investment in kaimahi wellbeing was completed this year with the construction of new shepherds’ quarters at Hereheretau Station.
The new purpose-built accommodation provides station staff with modern, comfortable housing that meets Healthy Homes standards. Providing a warm, modern and fit-for-purpose living environment for the three full-time staff who call the station home.
Construction was completed during the year, with a blessing held on 10 April attended by station staff, the building team, mana whenua and Te Tumu Paeroa kaimahi. The blessing was led by Bob Solomon of Whakakī Marae on behalf of mana whenua.
Hereheretau Station is the major asset of the Māori Soldiers Trust, a trust established in 1917 for the benefit of Māori veterans of the First World War. Today, the station continues to generate value for the Trust and helps fund initiatives such as the Sir Āpirana Ngata Scholarship programme for descendants of Māori veterans.
The completion of the shepherds’ quarters represents an investment not only in farm infrastructure, but also in the people whose mahi contributes to the long-term success and sustainability of Hereheretau Station.
