Alumni event for Young Māori farmer winners

Te Tumu Paeroa and Te Puni Kōkiri are hosting the inaugural Ahuwhenua Young Māori Farmer Alumni event on Friday 17 May in Wellington.

The Alumni event brings together previous winners of the Ahuwhenua Young Māori Farmer Award. It gives them a chance to share stories from their successful farming careers, and build networks with each other. Five of the previous seven winners will attend.

Te Tumu Paeroa rural advisor Aaron Hunt is excited about the opportunities the event presents.

“This is a good bunch [of farmers] we’ve got coming along. Getting them all in the same room together is a chance for them to chat about the work and some of the challenges, share a few ideas, and just have a good catch up.”

The event will also feature a group of guest speakers discussing ‘The Future of Farming’ and chaired by Keenan Kaiwai. The speakers include Duncan Matthews (BNZ), Ash-Leigh Campbell (NZ Young Farmers Board), William Morrison (Beef + Lamb NZ), Dr Andrew Tait (NIWA), Martin Workman (Ministry for the Environment) and YOLO Farmer Wayne Langford.
